EDUCATION PROGRAMS

 
 

Feathers, Fur, and Scales

This wonderful live animal program introduces students to the similarities and differences between mammals, birds and reptiles. Characteristics of each type of animal are examined through hands-on materials.
Fee: $90.00
Length: 1 Hour
Recommended grade level: K-6

Birds of Prey

This program offers an exciting and comprehensive exploration of local diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey. Living examples and hands-on materials help demonstrate flight, sight, hearing and other adaptations.
Fee: $90.00
Length: 1 Hour
Recommended grade level: 3-6

Silent Hunters

Students engage in an in-depth study of native California owls, observe the natural habitat of a live owl and examine a variety of hands-on specimens such as skulls, bones, feet, talons, wings and feathers.
Fee: $90.00
Length: 1 Hour
Recommended grade level: 3-6

Stayin' Alive

Take an up close look and discover how physical structures and behaviors help improve an animal's chance for survival in the wild. Through the study of bones, skulls, beaks and talons students will explore a wide variety of animal adaptations. Learn about habitats, predator/prey relationships and basic animal ecology. Observe living examples of selected animals during the presentation.

FIELD PROGRAMS


Down & Dirty

An outdoor adventure filled with exciting new discoveries about habitats. Includes lots of hands-on activities that explore the coexistence between plants, animals and insects. One adult assistant for every five students is required.
Fee: $6.00 per student ($150 minimum)
Length: 1.5 hours
Recommended grade level: K-6

Flora & Fauna

This guided walk introduces students to local wildlife and their habitats, California Early Native American plant use, and the environmental processes that affect the area around us.
Fee: $90.00
Length: 1 Hour
Recommended grade level: K-6

Wet & Wild

An outdoor activity program engaging students in hands-on science. Begin with a nature walk, then sample a local pond for aquatic insects. Students learn how different insects indicate water quality and increase awareness of the sources and impact of water pollution. One adult assistant for every five students is required.
Fee: $6.00 per student ($150 minimum)
Length: 1.5 Hours
Recommended grade level: 3 and up


California Native Americans

Learn how California Early Native Americans co-existed with wildlife and the environment and used plants and primitive tools. All students will have the opportunity for hands-on activities that may include acorn grinding, art, fine motor skill games and other activities. Requires 4 adult assistants.

Introduction to village life with comparison of
pre and post-contact lifestyles

Fee: $100.00
Length: 1 Hour
Recommended grade levels: 1--3

Emphasis on pre-contact era. Includes an in-depth study of daily life and environmental interaction.

Fee: $150.00
Length: 1. 5 hours
Recommended grade levels: 4--6



PROGRAM STIPULATIONS

Fees are for a minimum of two (2) identical programs booked for the same day. Single programs are available under certain circumstances and will incur an additional $20.00 fee. Maximum number of students per program is 35.

Programs held outside of the Morgan Hill or Gilroy Unified School Districts will incur an additional $25.00 travel fee.

"Wet & Wild" is held at Anderson Lake Park in Morgan Hill. "Flora & Fauna" and "Down and Dirty" are held at either Anderson Lake Park or Mt. Madonna Park in Gilroy. Other sites must be approved in advance by W.E.R.C. The booking party is responsible for all park-related fees and for providing their own transportation to the park.
