Morro, Fresno & Mom |
|
| |
Two bobcat kittens, Morro and Fresno--seen here with their
surrogate mom--are the latest recipients of W.E.R.C.’s
internationally renowned bobcat rehabilitation program,
demonstrated in the video below.
Along with our other animal patients and the educational
animals, it’s a day-in day-out job providing TLC for
all these creatures but we do it out of our love for wildlife
and the joy of eventually seeing the rehab animals released
back to their native habitats, healthy and wild.
Our wonderful volunteers are priceless, and W.E.R.C. couldn’t
exist without them, but we are in desperate need for money
to pay for the animals’ medications and health care,
food, supplies, housing, and general maintenance.
W.E.R.C. is supported entirely by donations, does not receive
any funds from government agencies, and does not charge
a fee to care for the sick, injured, and orphaned animals
in its care. We can’t keep our doors open to continue
our life-saving work without YOUR support. If you would
like to direct your donation to the bobcats’ rehabilitation
or other rehab or educational animal support, you may do
so. Merchandise gift cards are also welcome.
Send your donation to: W.E.R.C., P.O. Box 1105, Morgan Hill,
CA 95038 or via PayPal on this website.

In 1994, W.E.R.C. developed its ground-breaking,
world-renowned bobcat kitten program to ensure that single
bobcat orphans do not become habituated during their time
in care. The program helps socialize the orphan and reinforces
bobcat behavior, such as hunting and stalking techniques,
while ensuring that when the bobcat is released back to
its native habitat, it will steer clear of humans.
The bobcat “mommy” de-odorizes herself by rubbing
herbs all over her clothes and hair, gets into a full-body
costume that has been scented with bobcat urine, puts on
heavy gloves, and places a big, furry bobcat mask on her
head. Never uttering any sounds, she walks on all fours,
feeding the kitten, cleaning up, and then playing “chase-the-mouse”,
“attack the twig”, and other favorite bobcat
games. |
